Sanctified and Set Apart
Strange and Scattered – A Holy Walk in a Hostile World – Part Two
I am so excited to deliver this message this Sunday! Sanctified and Set Apart
Remember how we ended last week’s first in this series?
1 John 2:15-17 (CJB) 15 Do not love the world or the things of the world. If someone loves the world, then love for the Father is not in him; 16 because all the things of the world — the desires of the old nature, the desires of the eyes, and the pretensions of life — are not from the Father but from the world. 17 And the world is passing away, along with its desires. But whoever does God’s will remains forever. Sanctified…
We are told to come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing. I ask you… Who is “Them?”
(2 Corinthians 6:17) By way of the new birth we are creatures of another world. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come. Sanctified…
Hebrews 13:14 (CJB)
14 For we have no permanent city here; on the contrary, we seek the one to come.
God’s People are Scattered, Sanctified and Set Apart
Kefa, an apostle of Yeshua Hamashiach, to the strangers scattered … (1 Kefa 1:1)
Not only are we strangers, we are scattered. The word scattered comes from the word diaspora and carries the idea of that which is sown. It was derived from a Hebrew word describing the farmer sowing seed in the field.
I have to say, I love farming and farmers… It is a tough, unpredictable life and calling, and I believe fully that farming is a calling of God dating all the way back to the beginnings of time. Even though they are called by God, farmers have it very tough with many obstacles coming at them every moment of every day.
It is almost as though farmers are constantly under attack from weather, regulatory restrictions, city folk neighbors complaining about the dust and smells coming from the farm THEY moved next to!
Don’t forget price and market fluctuations in farm commodity markets.
Hey, even changing fads often impact a farmers profitability!
Remember when Beef was bad?
Remember when they said real farm fresh butter was the worst thing in the world to eat?
How about eggs?
Do you remember when eggs were going to kill every human being on the planet?
How often are the ‘experts’ terribly wrong about almost everything?
Farmers have to work against all of that noise and to think, the scattering of the seed after preparing the soil is the start to Life…
If you stop to think about it, scattering is the start of many good things that don’t seem readily good at the outset. The politically correct and post modern western evangelical hue and cry nowadays is to unify, unity, coming together... Now, that sounds really good; however, what group are you coming together with? Who and What are you joining?
The farmer knows you just don’t plant unlike seeds all together. Heck, even the casual backyard gardener knows that! So, we can all agree that unity just for the sake of unity is foolhardy and ill-advised. Further, it is simply unproductive… You can tell it is unproductive simply by the fruit such misplaced unity yields.
Sanctified is an important place to be… even if we are Scattered. Especially if we are Scattered.
Well, you will just have to listen in on Sunday evening at 5:30pm EDT to hear the rest of the story…
